Lenovo to step into smartphone world with the S2

Lenovo, one of the largest PC makers, has decided to introduce the first smartphone into the market by announcing the newly S2. Presented at CES in a press conference, the S2 will be first available in China, followed by an International arrival sometime later.

As far as its internal specs are concerned, the S2 comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.8-inch display with 800x480 pixel resolution, a frontal VGA camera for video calls, 512MB or 1GB of RAM (depending on what model you get) plus 8GB or 16GB of built-in storage space.

The S2 includes a dual-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, as well as an 8 megapixel camera on the back. No word on an eventual ICS update.

Panasonic to introduce Android phones in Europe next year

After announcing its plans to introduce Android phones in the US, Panasonic also said that it will expand its smartphone business for Europe too in March 2012. Their goals are to reach 1.5 milion smartphones next year in Europe and by 2016 to sell 15 miliion units annually.

The guys over at WPCentral managed to get their hands on this confidential smarphone roadmap for 2011 that we'll be seeing at Dell. It seems that the company's plans for this year include two powerful Android smartphones running on the upcoming version of OS, Android Ice Cream.

Dell Venue Review

Although the Dell Venue is not available worldwide yet, for the moment being sold only in South Korea and Hong Kong, the folks over at Engadget managed to get their hands on this Froyo-running, Snapdragon-equipped handset. And while the overall impression is a good one, there are still some bugs which need fixing before the smartphone hits international stores.

LG LU3000

While LG isn't a real competitor for HTC, Samsung or Apple, it seems that its new Android Froyo phone, LU 3000, is a real impressive piece, faster than Galaxy S and iPhone 4. Made for the South Korean market, the device was announced at the KES2010, the equivalent event of the US CES and is considered to be a high-end phone.
