Samsung Galaxy S Review - Android Phones

Samsung Galaxy S Review
Posted on: April 20, 2010 [Source]

What we love about the mobile world is the competition and we see it every day. On the Android stage there are a lot of important players, beating for the first position. Samsung might have join a little bit late with this new smartphone, but it surely brought something new on this market.

We know HTC is almost dominating the Android area with smartphones like Desire, Evo and now Incredible, but there is plenty of room for everybody.

Now back to the Samsung Galaxy S review: the phone is one of the devices that you can't forget so soon. It has a great design, thin and lightweight and features the Super AMOLED technology on a huge 4-inch display.

  • probably its best feature, the amazing 4-inch super AMOLED touch-screen is huge and makes the images appear live and crisp. If we add the slim waistline (2mm longer than the HTC HD2), it makes it the thinnest display
  • the Galaxy S features Samsung's TouchWiz UI interface, with some differences and more facilities than the HTC Sense, but some lacks too.
  • it also packs all the updates brought by Android 2.1, some new widgets and live wallpapers we've seen on the Nexus One.
  • the Hummingbird processor is a speedy 1GHz Cortex A8 and in comparision with the Xperia X10's Snapdragon CPU, it comes on the top.
  • The Galaxy S features Swype, the slide-your-finger, on-screen keyboard available in both portrait and landscape, which allows fast typing. A great improvement for the regular virtual keyboard, but not so common on other devices.
  • we can call it a great performer in the HD video playback department. The video player app comes with a DivX and XviD video support, which is rare in the Google OS family and it plays 720p videos.
  • the camera with 5 megapixels isn't something extraordinary, an accepted norm for the higher end Androids. It doesn't have flash or shutter key, so don't get to excited about the image quality; it's not the best in the 5MP range (a fairly high resolution video-1280x720pixels).
  • as for the storage, the Galaxy s comes with an 8GB or 16GB microSD memory identical with the one on the Droid Incredible.
  • it is the first phone to sport Smart Life, Samsung's new interface for Twitter. Like HTC or Motorola, Samsung has designed its own social networking aggregator, the Social Hub manages all your social media: Facebook, Daily Briefing, Smart Alarm and DLNA media sharing.
